  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • 2022 Virtual Conference Session
  • 30

This event aligns with the Personal, Professional and Organizational Application of ATD's Talent Development Capability Model.

Who among us hasn’t been in conflict with difficult people and wished we had better coping methods for dealing with it productively, and with our sanity intact? Let’s face it, conflict is unavoidable, it is inevitable, and without a clear strategy for managing it, we inevitably suffer, risk failure on the job and in our careers. This can cause us to become disengaged and unfulfilled in the workplace and ultimately, cause us to become jerks ourselves. Eric addresses these issues head-on and provides the strategies for managing conflict and cultivating workplace and client relationships so that you can work with anyone.

After this session will:

  • Apply ways to diffuse tense situations and mitigate conflict in a diverse work environment
  • Recognize how to spot a jerk and prevent becoming one yourself
  • Employ the AAA Method (Assess, Analyze, & Act) for disarming a jerk. preventing knee jerk reactions, and creating a jerk-free environment
  • Improve interactions with those having different personalities and values

Presenter:  Eric Williamson

With two decades of professional development experience, speaking, and most importantly, real-life, hands on in-the-trench experience in both the private and public sectors, Eric's view is inherently different. He appreciates and shares with participants that no matter how talented, gifted or experienced we are, and no matter what role we serve or title we carry, our level of success is not measured based on the work we produce. It is measured based on the relationships we build. Eric is the author of "How to Work with Jerks: Getting Stuff Done with People you can't Stand."
