Virtual Conference Session - Focusing on Outcomes and Real-World Performance through Competency-Based Education (CBE) and Micro-credentialing

This event aligns with the Personal Application of ATD's Talent Development Capability Model.

Student mastery should be the goal of any educational experience. In traditional educational models, time is one of the constants to the learning pathway. What does that pathway look like when we flip things around and place time as the variable and learning as the constant as with Competency-Based Education? In what ways does this offer learners the opportunity to enjoy more flexibility by working toward mastery at their own speed? What are some of the major advantages of these flexible approaches to learning? What are the challenges? How do these modalities compare and contrast to other models? Join Dr Chuck Hodell and Dennise Cardona as they take a deep dive discussion into these questions and more!

Learning outcome(s)

By the end of this discussion, attendees should be able to:

  • Determine the key differences between CBE, Micro-Credentials, and other traditional learning models
  • List at least 3 major advantages CBE and Micro-credentials offer learners
  • Discuss at least 1 challenge that each of these flexible models create
  • Recognize the key components of each of the two modalities
