Cultivating Grassroots Leadership: A World Café Event
In his amusing and inspirational TEDx talk, Drew Dudley challenges the idea that leadership belongs to those few extraordinary people who inspire and launch epic movements. Instead, he encourages us to find the everyday leaders around us, including ourselves. So, how can we go beyond the fancy titles, corner offices, and org charts to find the treasure trove of leadership buried in our organizations: the coworker that inspires greater effort, the supervisor who sees our potential, the team that makes change happen? How do we recognize the grassroots leaders in our midst? How can we encourage and support them? In what type of culture will they flourish? And what benefits do they offer our organizations?
As we kick off the 2016-2017 season of the Leadership Development Community of Practice, these are the BIG questions we’ll consider together. Using the World Café approach, we’ll participate in a highly visual and interactive session to co-create a vision for cultivating grassroots leadership. Leveraging our diverse perspectives, we’ll expand our thinking about leadership and lay the groundwork to evolve more effective, relevant, and innovative approaches to developing leaders at all levels. The vision we co-create will guide our community activities and meetings for the upcoming year so that we can assemble the resources and expertise to develop and support grassroots leaders—wherever they reside in the organization.
Your Facilitator: Melynda Benlemlih, Sr. Program Manager, C2 Technologies, Inc., has over 18 years of experience in human capital management, organization development and international education. She is an expert facilitator who enables groups and leaders to develop strategies, goals, and implementation tactics that result in improved focus for themselves, their teams, and their organizations. She has designed and facilitated hundreds of programs and meetings for clients in a variety of expertise areas. She has a vast toolkit of best practices to deploy in group facilitation, such as graphic and visual approaches and interactive exercises, as well as individual awareness tools such as StrengthsFinder, and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). She appreciates the nuances in team dynamics and focuses on individual accountability and appreciative inquiry when working with groups. She thrives on seeing the progress groups make by identifying the right goals and implementing the right processes and tools to achieve results.
