Several years ago, a group of coaches came up with anovel idea—what if we created a cadre of certified coaches within the Federal government to support Federal employees? Unlike many of these late-night, “napkin” ideas that wither in the light of day, this one became a reality, without a cent of Federal funding. Instead, it was and is fueled by the passions of those who created it. Today, it consists of a database of coaches from which managers can draw to develop employee capabilities, training to certify coaches, coaching policy, and research on coaching Return on Investment.
In this session, you’ll hear the story of the Federal Coaching Network. You’ll find out how this group of organic leaders was able to navigate the bureaucracy of the Federal Government in order to bring forth this much-needed innovation. As the Leadership Development Community of Practice continues exploring the concept of grassroots leadership, this session gives you the opportunity to hear from informal leaders who were able to bring forth their vision, and you’ll be able to ask questions to inspire your own leadership.
Larry Westberg is a certified executive coach with a certificate from the Center for Executive Coaching, specializing in coaching learning leaders and senior executives in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. For over 25 years, he has helped clients sail to higher performance levels through active coaching and highly defined performance development techniques. Larry currently supports the leadership programs at the Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service (DCPAS) to further develop senior executives and leaders within the highest levels of the Department of Defense (DoD). He works with DoD senior leaders to develop a continuing learning process for their senior-level development. He also coordinates the DoD Presidential Management Fellows program. In addition, he is the President of the non-profit foundation, Santa We Believe (www.santawebelieve.org), which provides specialized education and holiday experiences to underprivileged (pre-school-age) children throughout the United States.

Note: Although the address is Gallows Rd., the entrance to the building is actually on Boone Blvd. If you've just turned off of Rt. 7 onto Gallows Rd, with Olive Garden on your right, take the next left onto Boone Blvd., then turn right into the first driveway. 1921 is the building straight in front of you. Parking is over to the right, and it is free.

Closest Metro Stop: Tysons Corner (Silver Line): You can walk through Tysons Corner mall to Route 7, cross the street, and walk to 1921 Gallows Rd (which is actually on Boone Blvd). Probably about a half-mile walk.
In addition, there’s a shuttle bus that leaves the McLean Metro at approximately 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. and arrives at Tysons International Plaza (1921 Gallows Rd) about 20 minutes later. We can coordinate rides back to the Metro after the meeting.
