What are you reading these days? What leadership development books do you recommend? Join us to kick off a summer of great reading, with two authors of exciting new books, and our own Zach Rubin who runs the DCATD online book club. The authors will tell you about their books and Zach will tell you about his plans for the book club. Engage in a dialog of ideas with our panelists and ask them questions. Also, please bring your recommendations for good leadership development reading—books, articles, blogs, whatever inspires you. Our goal will be to leave with a list of reading to fuel our development over the coming year.

Our Panelists and their Work:

Susan SchwartzCreating a Greater Whole, A Project Manager’s Guide to Becoming a Leader. Creating a Greater Whole unlocks the not-so-secret secrets of what aspiring managers need to become strong leaders. This book’s roots are grounded in the value of synergy and the belief that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Its practical “outcome tested” strategies use well-defined leadership competencies to craft a framework that prepares emerging leaders to successfully meet challenging situations. Creating a Greater Whole is an interactive personalized journey. “Consider and Deliberate” sections within each chapter ask thought-provoking questions to help readers better understand the concepts and determine how they apply to their unique situation.

Shari Goodwin, Take the Reins! 7 Secrets to Inspired Leadership: This unique book blends best business strategies in leadership and sales with lessons learned from horses. Each secret provides practical advice to help you access the other 90% of your potential and achieve your goals. Learn how to conquer perfectionism, inspire yourself and your team, overcome fears that hold you back, and attract what you desire. Each secret is supported by heartfelt true stories from Goodwin's innovative equine-assisted business coaching program revealing her deep insight into human nature. This book is a must-read for anyone ready to raise their game.

Zach Rubin, PBC Guru: PBC Guru is an online book club management company that works with businesses to implement and manage virtual professional book clubs as employee development programs. Our book clubs are customized to the learning goals of each group we work with such as managers, young professionals, senior leaders and company-wide programs. Our service includes a dedicated book club facilitator who manages all the program details so participants read regularly, connect with each other and stay accountable to the program’s learning objectives.

Info about the venue:

If you’ve been to C2 before, we’re actually in the other building—1919, which is perpendicular to 1921. We’ll be in a training center on the ground floor.

Although the address is Gallows Rd., the entrance to the building is on Boone Blvd. If you've just turned off of Rt. 7 onto Gallows Rd, with Olive Garden on your right, take the next left onto Boone Blvd., then turn right into the first driveway. 1919 is the building to the left. Parking is over to the right, and it is free.

After you enter the building, go to the left to find the training center. We’ll have signs to guide you.

If you have any trouble getting in, call or text Claudia at 703.217.3517.

Closest Metro Stop: Tysons Corner (Silver Line): You can walk through Tysons Corner mall to Route 7, cross the street, and walk to 1919 Gallows Rd (which is actually on Boone Blvd). Probably about a half-mile walk.

In addition, there’s a shuttle bus that leaves the McLean Metro at approximately 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. and arrives at Tysons International Plaza (1919 Gallows Rd) about 20 minutes later. We can coordinate rides back to the Metro after the meeting.

Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
