Building on the discussion of neuroleadership at February’s chapter dinner, author and leadership facilitator and consultant, Mike Mears will lead a discussion about recent developments in neuroscience and cognitive psychology to uncover what differentiates the great leaders, teachers, and coaches from the rest. Through an interactive tour of current brain science, you’ll learn what makes people tick and how you can best engage people based on that insight. You’ll walk away with:

  • A model of what makes people tick, based on current neuroscience and cognitive psychology
  • Best practices in training development, based on recent neuroscience research
  • Universal practices that can help you improve both your work and personal life

Mike Mears is a leadership author, speaker, teacher, and consultant to government and private sector organizations. He was a combat veteran, entrepreneur, and a senior vice president at GE Investments before retiring as CIA’s Chief of Human Capital (HR). Along with his CIA operational experience, Mike brought about numerous innovations, and founded and headed the CIA Leadership Academy. Mike earned his undergraduate degree at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and his MBA from Harvard Business School. Mike teaches and lectures on leadership at the Department of Defense, Georgetown University, the University of Salzburg, National Intelligence University, and the University of Maryland. He is the author of Leadership Elements: A guide to Building Trust.

Venue: C2 Technologies, Training Center, 1919 Gallows Rd., Vienna, VA 22182

If you’ve been to C2 before, we’re actually in the other building— 1919, which is perpendicular to 1921. We’ll be in a training center on the ground floor. Although the address is Gallows Rd., the entrance to the building is on Boone Blvd. If you've just turned off of Rt. 7 onto Gallows Rd, with Olive Garden on your right, take the next left onto Boone Blvd., then turn right into the first driveway. 1919 is the building to the left. Parking is over to the right, and it is free. After you enter the building, go to the left to find the training center. We’ll have signs to guide you. If you have any trouble getting in, call or text Claudia at 703.217.3517. Closest Metro Stop: Tysons Corner (Silver Line): You can walk through Tysons Corner mall to Route 7, cross the street, and walk to 1919 Gallows Rd (which is actually on Boone Blvd). Probably about a half-mile walk. In addition, there’s a shuttle bus that leaves the McLean Metro at approximately 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. and arrives at Tysons International Plaza (1919 Gallows Rd) about 20 minutes later. We can coordinate rides back to the Metro after the meeting.

Light snacks and beverages will be served.
