This session introduces participants to basic features of “Immersion Thinking,” a new approach to innovative problem solving. The approach allows managers to take full advantage of the original insights of design teams, using freewriting methods to democratize ideation, encourage deep collaboration, and cultivate genuine creativity. We’ll explore how interpretive engagement can add depth and range to the design process by making the ideation stage more comprehensive and inclusive. Following an experiential model, workshop participants will practice various freewriting techniques to gain first-hand understanding of how the methods can be applied in a range of work settings.

Speaker:  Stephanie Dunson

Stephanie Dunson is the author of the upcoming book “Immersion Thinking: How a Simple Technology Can Transform How Work Teams Ideate, Collaborate, and Communicate.” As a consultant, she helps organizations use writing as a vehicle for devising original solutions to complex problems. Her workshops are designed to allow groups to think dynamically, work collaboratively, and innovate strategically. In addition to being founder and former director of the Office of Writing Programs at Williams College, Stephanie has over twenty years of experience as a consultant and critical thinking specialist, empowering clients to push beyond the conventional and allowing organizations to maximize their intellectual capital.
