Most leadership development programs focus on competency development, what's called horizontal development. However, in order for leaders to thrive in volatile conditions, they also need vertical development. Vertical development is a way of describing the progression of how adults look at their world, ranging from Expertise and Achievement focuses to Redefining and Strategic mindsets. In a company, these mindsets help define the culture of the company, and as leaders recognize their own vertical stage of development, they can help influence culture shifts. This interactive presentation allows participants to identify their own vertical stage of development and learn how to accelerate vertical growth through deliberate learning activities. You'll leave with concrete strategies for implementing vertical development into your leadership development programs.

Presenter: Dr. James Hadley

With almost 20-years experience in learning, training, and development, Dr. James Hadley specializes in designing immersive learning experiences and simulation-based training to integrate vertical development into leadership development. He currently serves as a senior manager for Boeing’s Global Leadership Foundations team, overseeing curriculum for over 13,000 first-line leaders and senior technical leaders. He possesses a BA in Communications, a Masters in Instructional Technology, a PhD in Education and is currently pursuing a Professional MBA. He resides in St. Louis, MO, with his wife and four kids.
