Staying competitive and advancing your career has never been more challenging.  Today’s professionals need every advantage they can muster.  One way to gain an edge is to have a career portfolio.   They can be used to get a new job, but also to receive a good evaluation with your current employer and possibly a promotion.  Career portfolios provide you with proof of performance that documents your knowledge, skills and abilities, far better than your resume...they demonstrate your value to an organization or a client.

This workshop will show participants how to take a step-by-step approach to create and use a career portfolio.  Workshop topics include:

  • Clarifying career goals
  • Identifying skills and competencies in demand
  • Documenting career accomplishments
  • Matching accomplishments to competencies and professional standards
  • Identifying and documenting workplace accomplishments
  • Using career portfolios in job searches and interviews
  • Creating electronic or e-portfolios
  • Using portfolios with social media to promote yourself
  • Leveraging  volunteer opportunities to create artifacts
  • Identifying common mistakes in career portfolios and how to avoid them
  • Using career portfolios even if you're not actively looking for a job
  • Applying career portfolios in the employee performance appraisal

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe what a portfolio is
  • List the reasons to have a portfolio
  • List the contents of a portfolio
  • Write their top career related or job accomplishments
  • Identify professional & employer standards
  • Link their career artifacts to professional standards
  • Document their career accomplishments
  • Format their career portfolio
  • Identify options for creating an electronic portfolio
  • Create a personal career action plan
