Data, data everywhere … but what do we do with all of it? In this session, Megan Torrance connects what’s going on in the world of xAPI with the concepts, structures and processes you need to get started with analyzing all that data. Successful adopters of xAPI and learning analytics have three things in common: a data-driven mindset, a data toolset, and a strategy for success.

This session will start with a very high level overview of what xAPI is in order to give participants a connection to some of the data structures that are important in a modern learning ecosystem. We'll then quickly switch into the role of analytics in the learning organization, contrasting it with reporting and some of the other uses of data that an organization might have. We'll explore different levels of analysis with examples from real life case studies, and then look at how to get started.

Why Attend?

In this session you will have the opportunity to:

  • Describe xAPI and how the data differs from SCORM.
  • Define a process for conducting analysis.
  • Lay out a roadmap for implementation in your organization.
  • Identify tools and components you’ll need to get started.
  • Take in cautionary advice about over-reliance on data (yes!).

Skills Covered

  • Planning for data collection & analysis.
  • Formulation of hypotheses & questions for analysis.
  • Identifying tools required for data & analytics.
  • Aligning data needs with organizational needs.
