The New York Times dubbed 2012 'The Year of the MOOC,' and it has since become one of the hottest topics in education. Time magazine said that free MOOCs open the door to the 'Ivy League for the Masses.'

So what is a MOOC and why should training and development professionals care?  MOOCs have the potential to impact what we do in ways we have never seen before.  A MOOC is a massive open online course (MOOC), an online course aimed at large-scale interactive participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as videos, readings, and problem sets, MOOCs provide interactive user forums that help build a community for the participant.  When you think of MOOCs, think of our traditional communities of practice on steroids, large-scale, global and best of all, free.

Come to the October Silver Line meeting and learn about the MOOC experience from folks who have participated in these online learning programs.  Let’s talk about the experience and brainstorm ways the MOOCs can be used to form professional development in our organizations.

Networking and a continental breakfast begins at 7:30 am with the program beginning at 8:00 am.
