    Description:

If you dislike marketing and selling leaves you feeling sleazy, then this program is for you. If you are responsible for purchasing training products and solutions and frustrated by vendors endless sales calls, then this program is for you.

Most business professionals love doing what they do. Marketing and sales—not so much.

Most client-getting programs for consultants focus on three things:

    • Networking to find new clients
    • Pitching their services
    • Pricing proposals

They focus on networking to find a prospect, asking clients, “What is their problem,” and pitching their services to solve it.

Reality check #1 - Most times, the client doesn’t know what the problem is ; all the client knows is that they need help.

Reality check #2 - Your clients don’t care about you! They don’t care about what you have to offer!

What your clients care about is “What can you do for them? How can you help them transform their business?”

This program will show you a refreshingly different approach. The Consultative Mindset is focused on developing collaborative relationships with your clients and winning repeat business and referrals. Mike Lovell has developed the Consultative Mindset based on his experience in applying the pioneering work of the Process Consulting Model for Helping, first developed by the (late) Edgar Schein and Gordon and Ronald Lippitt.

The Business Development series will comprise three sessions.

Session 1 - Why and how organizations buy consulting services (The client perspective)
This session will walk through a case study of how a large utility company went about hiring consultants to advise on telecommunications infrastructure for a new building project.

Session 2  - The consultative consulting business development approach
This session will walk through the case study from cold-calling to selling a major strategy project that went on to yield repeat business for over five years.

Session 3 - How to write and develop pricing for a winning consulting proposal
This session will work through the proposal template that Mike has used to win many consulting projects. A downloadable copy of the template in WORD format will be provided for all participants.

Various adult learning scholars have discussed how individuals can learn about their past life and bring what they have learned forward to inform current decisions, story different transitions of their career, to make sense of the choices they make as well as highlight ambiguity that may lie at the heart of significant learning (Alheit 1994, 2009; Ibarra and Barbelescu, 2010 and West, 2014).

Learning Life History offers a transformative learning theory that can be used as an instructional design tool, in training delivery, facilitation, coaching, career and leadership development. The facilitator of this workshop has utilized Learning Life History with senior level executives in an Executive Development Program, in a coaching environment with clients and in his role as a supervisor.

During the workshop participants will participate in a Learning Life History exercise that will demonstrate how important learning life history is to their own development. Participants will learn how they can integrate learning life history into their learning programs utilizing different activities including writing, personal reflection, work in dyads, work in small groups and as a coaching tool for supervisors.

The past few years have presented unprecedented challenges, with remote work and physical disconnection leading to a noticeable decline in human connection and shared enthusiasm. It’s becoming increasingly evident that to make a meaningful impact in training initiatives, cultivating a high-energy atmosphere is not just beneficial—it’s imperative.

In training environments, where the level of participant energy is a critical determinant of learning effectiveness and knowledge retention, harnessing and synchronizing energy is key. Without a palpable sense of energy, participants are likely to leave feeling uninspired and unprepared to apply what they’ve learned. Conversely, when the energy is right, the learning environment transforms, leading to heightened engagement, deeper understanding, and a readiness to put new skills into practice.

    Key Takeaways:

    1. The Contagious Power of Energy:

Discover how energy acts as a silent communicator, influencing moods, engagement levels, and overall retention. Learn strategies to foster a positive energy flow, creating a ripple effect that uplifts the entire room and transforms the training atmosphere.

    2. Mastering Your Energy State:

Equip yourself with practical tools and techniques to manage and boost your own energy levels, ensuring that you are always bringing your best self to the training space. Understand the science of energy management and learn how to navigate days when your energy might be lagging, turning potential setbacks into opportunities for growth and connection.

    3. Reducing Friction, Amplifying Energy:

Uncover tips and tools designed to lessen training friction, paving the way for a smoother, more harmonious environment. Learn how creating space for energy to flow freely can lead to enhanced engagement, stronger contribution, and a palpable sense of acknowledgement and satisfaction among attendees.

By the end of this talk, attendees will be equipped with a comprehensive understanding of the pivotal role that energy plays in training engagement, along with a toolkit of strategies to harness this power for themselves and their participants. Join us in unlocking the secrets of the Engagement Dynamo, and learning ways to transform training into a hub of energy, enthusiasm, and unparalleled retention.

The greatest joys in life only happen when we are intentionally present. Seemingly stuck in our heads, we tend to rehash about past events, pre-hash about future uncertainties and ruminate in the present, often based on distortions of reality. These tendencies to experience life in the “unpresent” may be the utmost source of unhappiness.

Fortunately, the opposite case is also true. We may not be able to control our thoughts, but we can prevent our thoughts from controlling us and diminishing our lives. With practice, we can make meaningful improvements that provide an enduring “Mindset Reset.

Assessments are incredibly popular: they provide insights into an individual's own behaviors, and a shared language for teams to better understand one another. But assessments alone don’t drive behavior change.

Games are the perfect tool to bridge the gap between knowledge and action. They allow for failure without consequence, empower teams to think creatively and experiment with new ways of collaborating, and generate critical a-ha moments.

In this workshop, we’ll introduce a framework for matching games with team development outcomes, and play games to explore their application toward fostering inclusivity, practicing giving and receiving feedback, and balancing competing priorities.

    The learning objectives include:

    • Matching games to specific team learning and development outcomes.
    • Generating reflective questions that inspire meaningful insights toward self- and situation-awareness.
    • Using games to foster higher levels of team engagement, connection, and motivation.

    Presenter: Alexandra Suchman

Alexandra (Alex) is CEO and co-founder of Barometer XP (BXP), a company that uses games to spark insightful conversations about how team members can better communicate and collaborate toward shared goals. Prior to BXP, Alex founded AIS Collaborations, a consulting firm that helped small orgs through simple systems, stronger organizing techniques, and better planning. She received her MPP from The George Washington University & BA from Colby College, and is a certified PMP & DISC coach.
